Colleen & David | Married

Columbus, OH Wedding

April 28, 2012  |  Colleen and David

I was really nervous about Colleen and David’s wedding for about a year. Super odd for me, because I haven’t really been nervous about shooting weddings since I was only shooting about 5 a year back in 2009.

But with nearly double the number of “favorites” that I had from any other wedding – I was pretty sure I would need some kind of intervention while prepping their blog post! However, I’m happily satisfied with what I managed to put together for them! :)

When I first heard of their Coral and Yellow color scheme I had a few doubts – BUT, I was pleasantly surprised, excited even, when I saw how beautifully they brought their details together! Especially at the reception…. oh man. This reception was amazing. I had such a good time – the decor was perfection, the food was delicious and the ice cream bar topped even the best candy bar! Colleen’s cake was a gorgeous 5 tier white glitter cake with sugar lace ribbons on the bottom tier.

Rain, Rain Go Away

Even with the standard April rains in Ohio, there were enough perfect little breaks for some chilly detail shots in the dandelions and sniffly portraits at the Franklin Park Conservatory. An overcast hazy sky gave us the more perfectly diffused lighting and my bridal party were some major troopers running in and outside to avoid the storms!

Shooting destination weddings can be a little exhausting at times, but I am so fortunate to become inspired by these amazing brides and grooms all over the world. A huge thank you to David, Colleen and their friends and family for being so hospitable and reminding this born-and-raised Ohio girl how awesome the OH is!

I love when I get to shoot my clients more than once! Click the link to see their engagement shoot!

Wedding Day Bliss

David’s gift to Colleen was a [rather funny] little book about the story of “them”. Rumor has it, there isn’t much truth to the actual story… but some of the photos are pretty priceless. Take, for instance, the photo below of Colleen’s mom and dad dressed as Britney and K-Fed for Halloween!

Also, I should mention that his note to her was a taped sheet of notebook paper on top of the present. I thought that was pretty classy. :)
(sorry, it just didn’t make the cut for my blog… but at least deserved an honorable mention! lol)

Colleen wore her mom’s veil for her wedding, and it was gorgeous with her dress!

True story, I totally got yelled at for standing in the aisle during the processional (that’s me in the the unflattering purple shirt above).
But it was kind of worth the gorgeous shots I got of Colleen walking down to meet David!
(I also kind of hope no one from the church sees this, or I’ll probably get yelled at again….lol)

Colleen’s little sister is kind of a nut. I loved her.

Colleen added a picture of her grandfather to her bouquet. Her grandmother didn’t know until after the family formals were finished and she showed her.

I will often ask people the significance of photos or memoirs during their wedding, but I loved Colleen’s response so much, I wanted to share it:

“Whether it was a dance recital, high school musical, or birthday, my Grandma and Grandpa K were always there.
I wanted to let her know that through all the chaos of the wedding planning, I hadn’t forgotten him.”

After the ceremony and family photos were done, we headed over to the Franklin Park Conservatory grounds for more bridal party formals

Colleen and I bonded awhile ago over our mutual love for Toddlers and Tiaras!

One person in this picture has never seen Toddler’s and Tiaras. Just sayin.

I loved shooting at Franklin Park Conservatory! Even through a mist of rain and sporadic showers, it gave us a gorgeous hazy sky!

Since the grass was wet, David valiantly picked Colleen up so she wouldn’t ruin her shoes!

Ok, now my favorite part of their wedding! This reception was ridiculous. Seriously gorgeous. Their vendors did such an amazing job putting Colleen and David’s vision together. They made our jobs a breeze. Shooting these types of events are so creatively inspiring! We just run around from place to place trying to get every angle and every flower!

Their table numbers were pictures of each of them at that age

Since David isn’t a huge cake fan, they brought in Strickland’s Frozen Custard to create Dauch’s Dairy Bar!
This was a huge hit – with 20 toppings and 4 flavors of ice cream, everyone was treated to their favorites!
