Melbourne Beach Wedding

February 12, 2012ย  |ย  Cortney and CJ

A professional surfer currently on the World Tour, CJ Hobgood found his lifelong soulmate in the heart of Cortney Roberts. Both single parents of young daughters, CJ and Cortney learned they had so much more in common – like dreams of a future together with their children, growing as a young family. After a chance meeting through mutual friends, Cortney and CJ started a fairy-tale romance.

From Cortney, โ€œWe bonded over the love we had for our children at first, then after about 3 months we both pretty much knew this was it. I traveled with him a bit last year everywhere from Australia, to California, to Spain, Portugal, France (twice), Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. It was like a constant honeymoon, so of course I was always pressuring him to pop the question at one of those magical places…but he never did.โ€

CJ finally asked Cortney to marry him on a snowy day in Central Park with an heirloom diamond passed down through CJ’s family.

Surf’s up

CJ is sponsored by TWLOHA (To Write Love on Her Arms, a non-profit organization for the awareness of depression) and can be seen in their recent video release here, for the Australian Gold Coast tour (Go CJ); Hope Goes Surfing:

With a nod to the vintage elegance Cortney loves, they married in quaint southern chapel in Melbourne Beach, FL. Their details included a Carolina Herrera gown (obsessed) and custom vintage stationary. Their reception was held at a friend of the familyโ€™s estate down the street.

The celebration will continue with a postponed honeymoon in Fiji.

The day following their wedding, CJ was back on the road to a surfing tournament in Brazil, where he won first place. Today, they’re enjoying Australia while on tour, so I’m glad to be able to share this with them from the other end of the world :)

(Oh, and I guess CJ is kind of a big deal. About a week after shooting their wedding, I get an email from a friend in Australia who I thought might pass out when he saw I shot CJ’s wedding on Facebook. I should probably harass Cortney to get me an autograph to send over to him :))

Wedding day

We spent something like 4 hours with the girls before the ceremony,
which gave us plenty of time for Cortney’s amazing details and lots of cupcakes and cucumber water!!

Cortney gave her bridesmaids these adorable gift baskets with bows for their dresses,
unique special cocktail rings, perfume and lots of other vintage details.

Cortney’s maid of honor loaned a vintage watch from her mother to Cortney for the wedding

Cortney’s hair combs are vintage inspired from Carolina Herrera

Her dress was amazing. Quite possibly my favorite wedding gown ever.
I am nothing less than obsessed with Carolina Herrera’s designs – from bridal to the red carpet.
Imagine my sheer joy to receive an email from the Carolina Herrera Salon
asking to send Ms. Herrera our images from Cortney’s wedding! I almost died.

Cortney bought her daughter, Mia, and CJ’s daughter, Genevieve, their dresses from a recent trip to Australia

Gen and Mia

By far, one of my favorite shots ever. Ever. This gown was so inspiring.

One a residential street. In a yard. Doesn’t really matter where you shoot these girls, they looked amazing.

Cortney found these leather belts on Etsy and added them to the gowns. It was a perfect compliment to the vintage style.

Not too shabby either, CJ cleaned up pretty nice – and we LOVED his bow-tie!

How seriously cute is this kid? I mean, all the kids looked like they fell out of a magazine. But his hair…. watch out pre-schoolers!

Tiniest chapel ever…. but soooo cute!

Cortney’s dad brought this amazing vintage car for their transportation

Their reception venue was a private residence in Melbourne

I loved the back of their wooden table numbers! They screen printed pictures from their engagement session – such a cute idea!

A personalized surfboard served as their Guest Book during cocktail hour

Then the party kicked in to overdrive….

Cort, CJ and the girls finished the evening by launching lanterns over the lake together, in their own little private ceremony

We snuck one of the welcome baskets that were at the hotel for the arriving guests. Full of the best stuff ever!
