Orchid Garden
January 24, 2015 | Emily and RC
Emily and RC’s wedding was elegant, romantic and full of surprises… like, the entire downtown Orlando fire department who made cameos during the reception thanks to a fire alarm! From their engagement session, I knew I would love their wedding day style – and I was absolutely right! Emily and RC pulled in elements of a Gatsby style wedding, like custom made bracelets and lots of gold and black details. Instead of traditional floral and cake, they opted for a full dessert bar of donuts and milk, cupcakes and sweets; and lots of candelabras for centerpieces.
Orchid Garden gave us the perfect backdrop for their event. The venue, located in the heart of downtown Orlando on Church Street, has recently been revived from it’s former days when it opened in the 80’s as a New Orleans style meeting place. Now, after a huge renovation, it is one of the most beautiful wedding venues downtown!
For Emily and RC, who met in high school, it wasn’t quite love at first sight! Emily said that she thought RC acted like he was “cooler” than everyone else – and it wasn’t until a friend took her to his birthday party after high school that they reconnected and realized how much they liked each other! On Friday, December 13th, 2013, RC proposed to Emily on Park Avenue in Winter Park just after sunset. Emily said the number 13 is actually always in their lives – even their wedding date adds up to 13!
When it comes to the wedding, Emily will tell you a little about their plans:
“Our wedding has a 1920/30’s Great Gatsby theme for so many reasons! We both love how formal parties were back then and just how glamorous people were. Our wedding colors are very classic and go perfectly with the theme, being black, white, gold and silver. We chose to just do candelabras on the tables with lots of crystals and candle light. No flowers on the tables, just at the alter. The entire venue has a 1920’s look to it-very vintage but very glamorous! We have a lot of details that are being hand made by my parents-table runners by my mom, finger print tree painting by my dad for the sign in table, and many other things. RC’s stepdad is Jewish so he will be saying a jewish prayer during the ceremony. We really want the entire thing to be an amazing party for people to enjoy and we hope that comes across in the atmosphere! We chose food that we love-with lots of cheese since I am from Wisconsin!”
