Styled Shoot Concept: Dark Romance

Our final project as KWP interns was to create a concept for a styled shoot and execute it by bringing in all the right vendors to assist and collaborate with one another creatively.

I have to say when we were assigned styled shoots I felt very lost. I had no idea what a runner was, the cost of florals, the planning that goes into draping a space and the list goes on but I am still learning! I have learned more than I could have ever imagined about gowns, florals, hair & makeup, lighting, draping, venue selection, equipment rentals and planning.

We planned our styled shoots starting with Pinterest, like every good idea!:)

I searched through the photography section as well as editorial weddings and pinned away. After pinning about 150 pins and deleting 100 of them I found a consistent theme, a contrast between light and dark.

The feeling that I wanted to accomplish for this styled shoot was: romantic, moody and modern. I fell in love with deep wine colors: burgundy, garnet and purple combined with light colors: mauve, white and off white.

I am really influenced by artsy/editorial modern details.

So of course I had to include a glitter eyebrow!

The gowns I chose were from Calvet Couture Bridal, in Winter Park, Mona by Hayley Paige and Eden Camp by Claire Pettibone.

Searching for the perfect venue was the biggest challenge I faced with for my styled shoot concept. It was a unanimous decision that the best fit for our Dark Romance styled shoot would be rooftop at the Grand Bohemian Hotel. Once we had out venue set that really got the ball rolling to send out a detailed timeline as well as a creative brief.

Why These Vendors are Perfect:

An Affair to Remember

Rachel has been successfully planning events with An Affair to Remember for 9 years which made me completely confident in her expertise.

Muse Models

Working with Alexis, the owner of Modern Muse agency was great to work with! Their models were incredibly professional, Katye wore two bridal gowns from Calvet Couture Bridal as well a beautiful robe from A Girl with A Serious Dream. Jered arrived an hour early to his call time! Throughout the entire shoot he always asked me if I needed help with anything. Jered was so polite and helpful, it was great having him as our male model, the attire he wore the day of our shoot was from Absolutely Fitting.

Calvet Couture Bridal

Alexandra is the owner of Calvet Couture Bridal and was so helpful when choosing my gowns. She loved my concept and had the perfect gowns in mind when I stopped by. We were both so excited to do something out of the box, like a ceremony space and collaborate creatively together! The gowns we picked out were by two very talented designers, Mona by Hayley Paige and Eden Camp by Claire Pettibone.

Rentals

Orlando Wedding and Party Rentals was the perfect vendor to select my chairs from. They had the most beautiful Chiavari black chairs and new industrial metallic grey stools that gave my shoot that extra edge it needed!

Videographer

KEJ Productions was so much fun to work with! They were extremely flexible when we were attempting to secure a venue and they did a wonderful job capturing everything perfectly the day of our shoot. Elaine was so sweet, when she arrived she let me know what her game plan was and she was very excited to be there for everything, start to finish. As a Radio/Television student I was so excited to watch her work and see what she would come up with! Check out her incredible video below!

Venue

The Grand Bohemian Hotel is stunning! I knew the second that I walked in that this was the perfect venue for my styled shoot. The rooftop has this incredible white tent that helped out with all the wind that we were getting that day of our shoot but also made it possible to still use the draping. Without this tent I don’t think we would have been able to pull the shoot off.

Draping

Draping was huge for my concept! Thats why I knew Swag Decor was the perfect choice. Tommy was open to all of my ideas and also taught me a little about the mechanics that goes into draping. The day of the shoot Swag Decor arrived on time and were happy to shift the set up when we ran into a small technically difficulty, it was really a pleasure to work with them.

Hair & Makeup

Jillian Caro is AMAZING! I definitely threw her a curveball when I asked her if we could do glitter eyebrows on the model but Jillian was up for the challenge. After getting the glitter brow off, Jillian threw together the most incredible makeup dark makeup on Kayte that really made her eyes pop.

Florals

Lee Forrest is such a talented florist. I interviewed him earlier in my internship and I knew right after that he would be perfect for my styled shoot. He is one of the most creative people I have ever met and I knew that I could trust him to make something stunning and I was not disappointed! The morning of my shoot when he arrived with the florals I was floored, everything was PERFECT!

Stationery Suites

I was very lucky to get my stationary from Wedding Paper Divas. They have so many options available that I had a really hard time narrowing down which would be perfect for shoot. After I finally picked one and spoke with a Wedding Paper Divas representative they were extremely helpful making sure that everything would arrive on time and it did!

Suits

I was able to pick out a suit from Absolutely Fitting for my male model. They were so helpful and had so many options available. Since I really wanted to play with the colors of the suit I picked out one suit set and I was able to add on a navy Micheal Kors jacket!

Robe

This was one of my favorite pieces from the shoot. The stunning black robe we photographed is from A Girl with A Serious Dream. I was so excited to the robe because I had never seen it photographed like this before. When Kayte came up stairs everyone was silent because she looked absolutely GORGEOUS in it!

Runner

My runner was created by A Girl & Her Glitter and Thats a Wrap! I saw the runner a few days before the shoot and it was flawless. It captivated the movement and the feeling that I had envisioned, they truly did an amazing job!
