Wilmington, NC wedding
October 27, 2012 | Sarah and Dave
I know how easy it is to get caught up in plans. You spend a year or more planning the perfect day – down to the table numbers and chargers – only to have a giant, late season hurricane blast your beautiful Wilmington outdoor wedding. When Hurricane Sandy started making it’s way up the coast, we started planning for a new plan! Sarah was an avid blog reader of mine, and the first thing she said was how Jana and Kyle’s beautiful Army wedding was also hit by a major storm, and they still had amazing photos. So she knew it would be ok. We plan, God laughs. Right?
So we made changes, and actually – not to make light of the seriousness of Sandy – but Sarah and Dave’s wedding turned in to the most beautiful rainy day ceremony. Cozy lighting, a roaring fire and the warmth of their family and friends (and some alcohol). Instant awesomeness.
Trash the Dress
Not as easy, however, was talking Sarah out of her dream “Trash the Dress” session the next day at the beach in Wilmington. With Sandy in full force, it wasn’t even a remote possibility (although Sarah didn’t believe us…. oh, wedding day bliss thinking :)) But they kicked off their South American honeymoon with a stop in Orlando for an even better, warmer, Trash the Dress session!! I can’t wait to post those pictures, but I added one of my favorites at the bottom of this post :) So stay tuned for that!
To Sarah and Dave – thank you, so much, for being so amazing! For being kind and flexible and just SO much fun to spend the day with! Rachel and I just adored shooting your wedding and I hope to see you again really soon! Good luck on your move to New York… I see a NYC session in our near future!!

Sarah’s accessories were the perfect backdrop for her detail shots. I LOVE Kate Spade – and Sarah had a clutch and shoes from this amazing designer!
One of my absolute most favorite details from any wedding. Ever. Their engraved weddings bands had lifelong notes to each other. His said “Non-Refundable”; and his note to Sarah on how to keep him happy? Her band proudly reads “Feed me snacks”. Now that is some serious true love :)
Thank goodness Sarah and Dave were so flexible with their day! Since Hurricane Sandy kept us inside for most of the day, their first look was in the hotel lobby. I’m not complaining though – except I was kind of hoping to plan their look around the radar showing up on the tv. Now that would’ve been a great reminder – not that they needed one :)
Sarah wasn’t afraid of getting a little dirty, or wet, before the ceremony and happily let me drag her all over the country club grounds. Umbrellas and all, we still got some amazing opportunities for photos (thank goodness!)
Dear Hurricane: Thank you for the amazing gusts of well-timed wind.
Have you ever been right next to a bagpiper inside a small room? It’s loud. Seriously. But this was Dave’s one major “want” and Sarah graciously approved! I have to say, I do love myself a good bagpiper!
And a teaser from their Orlando Trash the Dress session that we shot right before their honeymoon cruise!
